Rule- Conflict: Someone has to get lost
The Epic Adventure of Little Sanchez

Once upon a time there lived a mighty penguin named King Sanchez. King Sanchez ruled in the land of Penguin Town and everyone loved him. He also had a beautiful wife and a son named Little Sanchez. He was quite the handful and his dad was not always pleased with him.

One day little Sanchez decided to run away from home because his father said he couldn’t have a birthday party. When he left he was filled with rage and never wanted to return. Little Sanchez left at 2:30 in the morning so no one would catch him. Once he got far away enough from home, he realized that he had forgotten his favorite T-Shirt. Little Sanchez remembered picking it out at Walmart, so all he had to do was find the Penguin Town Walmart!

It seemed like days before little Sanchez arrived at Penguin Town Walmart. Once he finally got to Walmart he set out to find another shirt, just like the one he left behind. When little Sanchez walked through the aisles he saw lots of frozen fish, hats, mittens, and more fish! Who knew the Penguin Town Wal mart was so lovely. As he walked on throughout the rows little Sanchez began to get tired, and felt like he was never going to find another T- shirt:/ With no one around to help him he knew he had to find his way to the little penguin section. Will Little Sanchez ever be find his beloved t- shirt.

After being lost for about an hour, a clerk had stumbled along the little guy asleep in the toy section. When Sanchez woke up in the arms of the clerk, he had no idea where he was! The clerk asked him for his name and where he lived. The clerk drove him back to Penguin Town and King Sanchez was very grateful for his son to be back home. The clerk was given a special award and never had to work again. As for little Sanchez all he had to do was say sorry to everyone.

The next day King Sanchez took his son for a walk to explain that he can’t have everything he wants when he wants it. Little Sanchez knew his father was right and felt sorry for running away. King Sanchez also decided to throw his son a huge party because he really did understand what he did wrong. King Sanchez and Little Sanchez lived happily ever after.

The End!

Speak Essay

Speak Essay By: Abbey Van Hulle

Imagine being stuck alone with a senior boy you don’t even know. As you two walk along you think you might actually have a boyfriend. Things start getting ugly because before you know it your on the ground being assaulted. The horror of the living nightmare replays in your mind as you lay in your bed at home. This is the case for the main character in the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson. Throughout this story you the symbols and characters really show what mode it turns out to be.

Every comedy story starts out in normalcy everyday life. Speak starts off with the main character, Melinda, starting freshman year. It may seem like a normal life but no one really understands the conflict she carries with her throughout the entire story. Melinda is a disturbed individual with a conflict that she will never forget, being assaulted by a senior boy named Andy Evans. The comedy plot that comes next would be a minor conflict. Melinda’s problem isn’t necessarily the assault, but instead the minor conflict is dealing with depression and the struggles of high school. During her art class she is struck with the biggest symbol of the book, a tree. The tree will remain in symbolism throughout the book in many different ways. The tree shows sadness at times and other times it shows happinesss or love. Another symbol would include a mirror. Even on the first day Melinda turns her mirror around so she doesn’t have to look at herself, which is a little creepy to most. Will this conflict ever show how big of a problem it really is?

Although this book is a comedy, nothing is really funny in the book. That doesn’t mean that it has to be funny, it just has to follow the plot line. The third plot in a comedy is when the conflict is realized. Melinda starts to see how something is wrong with her depression. On page 45 of the book a girl at her high school comments, " She's creepy. What's wrong with her lips? It looks like she's got a disease or something." Now Melinda realizes that she is a little messed up, but it’s not her fault. Next up on the plot line includes a resolution. Hopefully Melinda is finally able to get help.

As Melinda carries on throughout high school with bad grades, no friends, bad art projects, and depression she finally tells someone about her problem. This is a huge step for her because maybe this will be the end of her struggle to forget about Andy. One day she decides to tell her old best friend Rachel. When Rachel hears she feels terrible, because she assumed that Melinda called the cops to rat everyone out. Rachel was obviously wrong, but then things go all wrong when Melinda tells her who assaulted her. Rachel is actually dating Andy now so she blows up thinking that Melinda is just jealous. Now everything is wrong again! But this will not be the end of this sad comedy. Every comedy has a resolution, which is just the help Melinda needs. The next spot Melinda goes to is her closet. Her closet is old and crappy so she made it into her hiding hole. Towards the end of this story Melinda goes into the closet to clean it out before the end of the year. When she is in the closet she hears someone close the door. On page of the book Melinda says in her mind, “ I’m trapped with Andy Evans.” He tells her all the things she has done wrong to ruin his life and then he beats her up. Melinda will not take this anymore, the mirror is the next greatest thing to save her. It is broken and all broken mirrors are bad luck, but not for her. Melinda takes a shard of glass and cuts Andy on the neck. Then she unlocks the door and one of her old friends is standing there with the rest of her team(LaCrosse Team) This is the best resolution for the book and you really can tell how it is a comedy.

Overall this book ends just like any comedy should end, back to normalcy. Melinda leaves high school with friends and a lot of people to support her. This dark comedy is depressing yet a very good story. All in all this book was a great example of a comedy because it follows the plot and shows it through symbolism.
